BBYW Vol. 4 Chapter 47 (WN)

Chapter 47 – Zeal Drenched in Blood

【POV: Sakuya】

“Mph…to go with my brother and leave me here…Lord Dyngir can be so mean sometimes.”

In the city of Thebes, capital of the Sphinx territory, I was left in charge of the residence currently borrowed by Lord Dyngir.

The conflict caused by the invasion of the “Terror Armies” in the western province was going to end soon.

My master, Lord Dyngir, was now leading troops to retake Fort Giza, an outpost located on the western border of the Lamperouge Kingdom.

Three days had already passed since Lord Dyngir left the capital. He should be able to return soon, I suppose?

“This is not good…I was together with Lord Dyngir for months until a while ago, so not seeing him for just a few days makes my body feel so restless. This is the price of falling in love, I guess.”

I caressed my chest and sighed, dejected.

Just a few months had passed since Lord Dyngir’s engagement was broken, but so many things happened already.

The empire’s aggression, the battle at the tower of Babel.

The clash against the pirates in the southern archipelago, the battle against Captain Drake.

And now — the invasion of the “Terror Armies”.

“Lord Dyngir was always prone to being involved in trouble, but things have truly gotten out of hand recently. There has not been one moment of rest…could there be someone behind it all?”

Our “Fangs of Steel” protection network was at Lord Dyngir’s side constantly.

If there was anyone with ill intentions around him, they would surely be caught in our net…

“…either our foe can bypass our network, or the recent events happened by pure coincidence. The goddess of fate might be trying to punish Lord Dyngir.”

It would not be strange for that womanizer to attract the ire of a goddess…or maybe, this is the sign that he attracted her favor?

He could have caught a goddess’ attention somehow, and this is the result?

“I wonder what you think of this matter? I would love to hear a third party’s opinion.”

“—–!!!!”

My question was answered by unintelligible mumbling and squirming, by the man sitting on the chair.

His limbs were tied tightly to the chair’s arm rests and legs, as was his torso. Not even a contortionist would be able to free themselves of such constraints.

“Oh, my apologies. You cannot talk with that gag now, can you? Let me remove it for you.”

“Phaah…haah…hah…help…”

I took off the cloth obstructing the man’s mouth and he breathed heavily. Among his desperate gasps, I could hear him pleading with me to spare his life.

I cocked my head to the side and inquired.

“You haven’t answered my question yet. Why?”

“Please!!! I don’t want to die, please…!!!”

“Oh my, you sound so terrified. What are you so afraid of, though? You make it seem like I was bullying you.”

I stepped behind the man’s chair and put my hands on his shoulders. The man shuddered, in exaggerated fashion.

“Do tell me, please. Have I done anything bad to you? Or maybe…you were the ones to do something bad?”

“I-It was us!! We were in the wrong!! Completely!! So please forgive me…! I don’t want to turn into that…!!”

“Turn into…that? That’s not nice to say, wasn’t he your friend? Don’t you know that if you don’t treat your friends nicely, you will be punished?”

“HYEEEHHH!!!”

The man’s gaze — pointed straight ahead, at the man sitting on the chair in front of him.

Though anyone would be hard-pressed to tell there was still a man on the chair.

This man and his friend are assassins who attempted to harm Vert Sphinx, head of the clan, and his daughter Naam, after Lord Dyngir left with the Sphinx troops for Fort Giza.

In order to thwart any such plots, I and other “Fangs of Steel” members kept guard of the Sphinx residence, so we could capture these two men.

At present, I was in the middle of extracting information from them.

“Let’s see…if you continue to keep quiet, you really might end up just like your friend. Just like him, you might have your nails torn off, your fingers broken, your skin carefully peeled, ears and nose sliced off…your organs extracted while you are still alive. Is that what you want?”

“HYEEEHHH!!!”

The man wailed and screamed.

The other assassin had already been “dismantled” by my hand, so he barely retained human-like features anymore.

It all happened before this man’s eyes, too.

“Poor thing. Seeing your friend slaughtered before your eyes must have been so stressful. Do not worry, I will put you to rest soon.”

“NOOOOO!!! I’ll talk!! I’ll tell you everything!! Please spare meeeee!!!”

After being captured, he had boldly proclaimed that he would not say a word. Seeing what happened to his comrade had bent his resolve, apparently.

I was relieved that he finally complied. I did not have many spare maid outfits with me, so I did not want to stain them any more with blood.

“Please go ahead, then. Who hired you?”

“Eeek…!!!”

Seeing my scissors snap open and shut before his eyes, the man exuded liquids by each and every pore and hole of his body.

The floor was already drenched in a liquid with a rather pungent smell. It was pointless to worry about cleaning for now.

“W-We were hired by…”

The man finally confessed, eyes brimming with tears.

The name he uttered was fully expected: I was glad to hear that our preliminary investigation was thus validated.

“I see…Nahib Massab. As expected.”

“……….”

“As promised, I will let you free now…thank you for your efforts.”

“Ghah…”

I pricked the man’s neck with a poisoned needle.

The poison took effect immediately and caused no pain: thanks to that, the man stopped moving instantly.

“Well…I cannot wait for Lord Dyngir to come back. He will surely be happy to learn this.”

I smiled, a softer expression on my face, then left the room to fetch my cleaning tools.
