BBYW Vol. 4 Chapter 66 (WN)
Chapter 66 – The Sword Saint’s Unfathomable Depths
“Sheesh, that was scary!”
“Wha-!?”
I was sure that would be the final blow, but Benamis’ body vanished in thin air.
For an instant, I felt like the scenery before me had been swapped, a daze that made me wobble like a drunkard.
“The Magic Tool that switches the user’s position with the opponent — Theseus.”
“?!”
Benamis’ voice resounded behind me. I immediately turned around, swinging my blade in a horizontal slash. Benamis, as expected, had already drawn his own sword and was in mid-swing, so our weapons clashed violently.
“The Magic Tool that allows the user to envelop a weapon with flames — Vulcanus.”
“What the—!?”
Benamis’ sword became the center of a whirlpool of flames, which were aiming to scorch my own sword and hands together.
I immediately activated “Herakles” and erased the magical flames, but the resulting opening gave Benamis the opportunity to step in closer to strike.
“The Magic Tool that allows the user to slay a target with a single scratch — Sabnac.”
“Gh…!”
Benamis had pulled out a dagger from who knows where and promptly thrust it towards my chest.
I reflectively twisted my body out of the way, but he managed to inflict a scratch on my skin, which started burning as it was on fire, and became progressively larger.
Feeling as if I had been struck by a burning cattle brand, I grimaced in pain.
“What a pain…! Herakles!!”
I quickly realized that the wound and its effects were caused by magic and touched the source of the searing pain with my trusted sword.
The heat subsided, as if poison had been removed from my body, and the wound stopped growing too.
“That sword is a pest too, though. If it can cancel even the effects of Magic Tools, it’s basically my natural enemy!”
“That’s the last thing I want to hear from someone that keeps pulling Magic Tools out of thin air! How the hell did you find so many!?”
I replied to Benamis’ snarky tone with thinly veiled anger.
When I attempted my last attack, Benamis had moved behind me in an instant. I managed to catch that, in that very instant, the bracelet on his left arm glowed for a second. That had to be “Theseus.”
When Benamis’ sword was engulfed in flames, the fire was released by the ring on his index finger. That was “Vulcanus”.
Finally — The long sword and dagger he was holding in his left and right hands, respectively. Those were “Nidhogg” and “Sabnac”.
Magic Tools were legendary relics, crafted by the gods of the ancient ages. Each one was worth hundreds to thousands of gold coins.
To obtain as many as four of them was hardly a realistic feat, even for one of the most prominent nobles of the central province.
“Four…I wonder about that? I might have even more of them up my sleeve, hmm?”
Benamis replied with a wry smile.
At one glance, he was full of openings. Normally, I should be able to take down such an opponent with one single strike. His hint at owning even more Magic Tools, however, made it impossible to just charge him.
With my blade pointed in his direction, I observed Benamis’ full body very carefully.
“Young Master! We shall fight at your side!”
Seeing that I was having trouble, the Fangs of Steel member who had tied up Nahib — Oboro and one of his subordinates — circled behind Benamis. Both were armed with assassination knives.
“Whoa now. You won’t mind if I call you a coward, Sir?”
“Go right ahead. As for me, I don’t have any doubts anymore. You got to die, here and now.”
“My, my, so scary…but this works for me better, actually.”
“What?”
Benamis’ body vanished again. In his place, Nahib Massab’s unresponsive body appeared.
“Tch…he got me!”
I realized what Benamis was trying to do and growled.
I turned towards the spot where Nahib’s body used to be and, sure enough, Benamis was there, holding the bag that the nobleman had attempted to run away with.
“Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll take these with me. I can’t quite leave proof of our involvement in this affair unattended. Raphael!”
After spouting such excuses, Benamis started floating upward, as light as a feather. A halo of light appeared over his head.
“This is bad, young master!!”
“A f-flying Magic Tool…?”
The Fangs of Steel members shouted.
The witness, Nahib Massab, had been killed. All evidence was being stolen away. It was going to be a complete defeat for us.
“Too bad for you…I really, really hate losing.”
“Herakles — Shape of Indra”
I activated my final trump card.
The bracelet on my right arm released a fountain of golden light, which enveloped my whole body.
“I said that…you’re going to die here!!!”
“W-Waaaaah!?!”
I poured all the energy into my sword and unleashed a golden slash.
The beam of light, which had brought down even an immortal beast, struck the floating Benamis like a tsunami.
