TWEM Vol. 7 Chapter 11 Part 1
Chapter 11 – Gyuray’s Power
We were once again teleported to the battlefield.
Tendo and I had defeated the monsters, but the battle between the Demon King’s army and the Four Heavenly Kings’ army was yet to conclude.
And the Demon King’s army was at a disadvantage.
“Haruto, what are we going to do now?”
“Right…”
Since I told Fran to “Leave it to us,” I didn’t want to make things too difficult.
“Gyuray is our top priority. If we can stop him, this battle will come to an end.”
“Exactly.”
“So, Tendo. You go and help the army fighting over there.”
“But…”
I guessed what Tendo wanted to say.
I guess he wanted to know if I would be fine all by myself.
“I can deal with Gyuray on my own. Save as many of our allies as possible.”
After a short pause, Tendo nodded and said, “I get it.”
Tendo was about to head over immediately, but then Haruto remembered something he wanted to ask and stop him.
“Tendo.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Are you prepared?”
—Even though they are demons, are you ready to kill people?
He must have understood the exact meaning of my words.
Looking me in the eye with a serious expression, Tendo answered without hesitation.
“I’m already prepared.”
“If that’s the case, fine. But let me tell you something. If you hesitate, you will die there.”
“I know that much.”
Tendo said, and this time he turned his back and ran.
“I guess he’s grown as well.”
I muttered, staring at Tendo’s back.
I was somewhat deeply moved, but I changed my mind and started to move to fulfill my duty.
After checking the location on the map, I headed towards Gyuray, where a gruesome scene was unfolding.
Gyuray was mercilessly massacring many of those who may have been his former comrades or subordinates.
“S-Stop—”
Another person was killed by Gyuray’s hand.
The moment Gyuray readjusted his spear and thrust it forward, I called out.
“–Hey, come on. Do you want to die?”
He stopped dead, and was about to pierce the throat of another person.
Gyuray spoke without turning his head.
“What happened to Lauren?”
“He died.”
“I see. He fulfilled his duty. I’m relieved to hear that.”
“Duty? Aren’t you angry that your comrade died?”
“Angry? Are you telling me to mourn the death of someone who isn’t even a comrade?”
I frowned when Gyuray said he wasn’t a comrade.
Gyuray then turned around and our eyes met.
“Wasn’t he your comrade?”
“He was just one of those who share the same aspirations, and we’re merely one of ‘that One’s’ subordinates.”
That One…?
I was sure he was talking about the Evil God, but I’ll check just to be sure.
“Who is that One?”
“You think I’d tell you?”
“You wouldn’t give information to the enemy, would you?”
“That’s right. If you really want to, you’ll have to force me to spit it out.”
“Then let’s do this.”
Gyuray and I faced off.
The nearly-killed demon man was panicking, so I told him to retreat.
“I’ll take on Gyuray. You guys stand back and help the others.”
“B-But the opponent is Gyuray! You wouldn’t be able to defeat him—”
“Didn’t you hear me?”
“–!?”
He must have realized my strength after I activated the skill Intimidation.
The man bowed his head and said, “I’m sorry. I’ll leave the rest to you!” and fled the scene with the other soldiers.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Gyuray. Now that there’s no one in the way, let’s go ahead and do our thing.”
“How insolent. You’re just a lowly demon that was lucky to be picked up by that little demon lord girl, so don’t get too cocky. I’ll show you who’s better.”
“Then I’ll ask you to teach me, the former Four Heavenly Kings.”
Gyuray and I glared at each other, refusing to move.
I was trying to move when the other started to move.
However, I wasn’t going to get anywhere if I continued like this, so I decided to attack first.
I stepped on the ground and drew my sword while approaching Gyuray in one go.
I thought that the drawn sword had cut Gyuray’s torso, but then a high-pitched clang rang out.
“You blocked this, huh?”
Gyuray was blocking my unsheathed sword with the handle of his spear.
I was a little surprised, but I guessed that his movement and years of experience allowed him to block it.
“Then it’s my turn.”
With that, Gyuray flicked my sword that he had been blocking, and unleashed a blow of incredible speed aimed at my heart.
Just as it was about to reach me, I used the sheath to deflect the trajectory of the spear and avoid it.
However, Gyuray’s attack didn’t end there, and he continued to thrust his spear into me.
It was with incredible force, but I easily avoided all of it.
“—Shit!”
Gyuray stepped forward and closed the gap between us.
Gyuray swung his spear at my torso, trying to inflict damage.
“You can’t avoid this!”
“I wonder about that?”
I let go of my sword, deflected the spear handle with the arm that had activated the skill Hardening, and clenched my other hand.
“Wh–Gaha?!”
Gyuray was hit directly by my punch and sent flying horizontally.
Even so, he didn’t let go of his spear, which was impressive.
“Did I put in a bit too much force…?”
I hope Gyuray isn’t dead yet.
I’m a bit worried because it was a critical hit.
I still have things I wanted to ask him, so I couldn’t let him die here.
