TWEM Vol. 7 Chapter 14 Part 1
Chapter 14 – The Power of the First Demon King
Facing each other, Alogis and I didn’t move, and instead silently glared at each other.
We were trying our best to not miss the other’s move, wondering who would break the stalemate.
Alogis was the strongest being I had ever met, and was definitely not someone I could lower my guard against.
In the midst of this tense atmosphere, Alogis spoke with aplomb.
“What’s wrong, High Human? Aren’t you going to attack?”
“There’s no way I’d attack someone like you, who can’t be caught off guard.”
In response to my words, Alogis muttered, impressed, “I see.”
“You’re not letting your guard down, are you?”
“What…?”
The moment Alogis looked puzzled at my words, the ground beneath his feet began to shake.
Alogis must have thought about avoiding the attack, as he jumped from the spot, but the trembling ground was just a diversion.
The main attack was a magic bullet aimed at the gap while he was in the air.
Multiple bullets hit Alogis.
“Hmph, don’t act so sneaky! You thought that sort of move would work on me, the First Demon King and an Apostle!”
Alogis swept his arm away, blowing away my approaching attack.
Just a shake off his arm was all it took…
I was surprised to see a glimpse of Alogis’s power.
Alogis landed on the ground and pointed his hand at me in counterattack.
“Confine!”
As he said it, the ground around me rose up, trying to wrap me.
With the top blocked off in addition to all four sides, I had no way to escape.
And then a wall of earth covered me.
“Not yet.”
I heard Alogis’s voice.
Presuming it to be fire-based magic, I immediately activated teleportation magic and left the area, appearing behind Alogis.
The small black ball of fire hit the earthen wall that had trapped me until then, engulfing an area with a radius of fifty meters in flames.
After the flames disappeared, all that remained was a red-hot crater.
It was clear that it was extremely hot.
Alogis slowly turned behind.
“Oh, so you avoided it with teleportation magic?”
“How did you know?”
“That wall can’t be destroyed with just a simple attack. I was planning to finish it off by hitting it with that magic while it was taking its time to destroy it, but…”
Alogis has Detect Mana, Detect Presence, and even Crisis Detection skills, so he would have known where I was.
If I used Conceal Presence, I wouldn’t be caught by the Detect Presence skill, but… Detect Danger was a skill that warned one of danger, so I would still be found.
I had no choice but to fight head-on.
From there, a magic battle between me and Alogis began, and whenever our magic collided, an explosion occurred, destroying the surrounding terrain.
In the midst of this magic battle that looked otherworldly to an onlooker, I blended in with the dust generated by the explosion and approached Alogis while using my Conceal Presence skill.
I got close to Alogis and, in order to evade his magic detection, I drew my sword and attacked without using any magic power, relying only on my physical abilities.
I wish I could have slashed before his danger detection was activated, but――
Alogis seemed to notice, and pulled out his sword from thin air, blocking my blow.
As we clashed swords, we glared at each other.
“You took advantage of the dust and sand?”
“Well, this is the result.”
“Those little tricks won’t work on me.”
Alogis then looked at my beloved black sword, Benizakura.
“That thin sword, is it a Divine-grade?”
“You’ve got it right, you’re the first demon king after all.”
“Hmmph.”
I then appraise the sword Alogis holds.
Name: |
Underworld Emperor |
Rarity: |
Divine |
Notes: |
A magic sword born in the depths of the underworld. It cuts everything with merciless judgment. |
It didn’t say what it does exactly!
Well, it did say “cuts everything,” so it must have the ability to cut things… I’m not surprised at the rarity.
“That magic sword of yours is pretty dangerous.”
“It’s a magic sword that lives with me. It has judged many.”
Alogis said, and swung his sword with a “Hmmph.”
I was blown away without being able to resist the force, and after adjusting my stance in the air, I landed on my feet.
At the same time, I launched a magic spell toward Alogis.
“—Yamata no Orochi!”
Black flames erupted, and a black monster with eight heads and eight tails appeared.
I gave the order.
“Burn it down!”
Magical power gathered in the eight mouths, and a dark red breath was unleashed.
The breath hit where Alogis was standing, but… he’s the first Demon King, and it was hard to believe that he could be defeated with magic of this level.
When the smoke cleared, as expected, Alogis was standing there, unharmed.
I spoke while clicking my tongue.
“Tsk, I wish he’d died.”
“Nonsense. I’m not going to die from this. I’m returning the favor.”
Magic power gathered in Alogis’s raised magic sword, and he swung it down.
The black slash approached me with incredible speed, trying to cut me in half.
I have a bad feeling about this. Even the space-cutting barrier Aegis would likely be destroyed in no time.
While thinking this, I deployed the Aegis barrier, which was layered on top of each other, like a wall.
“It’s useless. This sword will cut through everything.”
At the same time that Alogis spoke, the Aegis space-cutting barriers that had been hit directly by the slash were easily cut to pieces.
I never thought that he would easily destroy the strongest barrier I could use.
However, the power of the slash seemed to be gradually weakening.
The slash that broke the last layer and was approaching me was annihilated with a single swing of my magic power.
“Hmph, there were some obstacles along the way, but to think that you were able to shatter my slash. Your sword is worthy of a Divine-grade.”
“You can only be impressed now.”
I raised my right index finger into the air.
“Here’s a little present. Take it.”
I swung my right index finger down. Alogis looked puzzled, but immediately his expression turned stiff.
This was because a shining red meteorite about 30 meters in diameter appeared, splitting the thick clouds covering the sky.
But then a smile appeared on Alogis’s face.
“I never thought you would use this kind of magic. Not even the ancient High Humans could use it… I will admit it. You are strong. You could be a threat to us.”
Alogis held up his magic sword in front of the approaching meteorite.
“But I am the First Demon King, and the Judge in place of my Lord. Do not underestimate me.”
Magic power concentrated on the magic sword, and with a flash, the meteorite was cut in half.
Well, that’s about it.
But—
“The meteorite itself is still there, you know?”
Yes, the cut chunk was still falling towards Alogis.
“Hmph, it’s not a big deal.”
Alogis held out his palm.
“Pull it in.”
A black dot appeared in the gap between the two meteorites.
Then, as if pulled by the dot, both meteorites were sucked in. It was like a black hole.
After absorbing the meteorite, the black dot disappeared as Alogis grabbed his hand.
I was surprised. I didn’t know that such magic existed.
Silence enveloped the surroundings.
“As thanks for showing me such an interesting magic. I’ll show you my own magic too. You will be judged— Gehenna Gate.”
As soon as Alogis spoke, a magic circle was drawn on the ground in front of him, and a jet-black gate appeared from it.
Beyond the door that slowly opened was pitch black, and it was impossible to tell what was there… or even if there was anything there.
However, it was not skill but intuition that was sounding the alarm.
If you look closely, you can see something slowly wriggling in the darkness beyond the door.
It was a countless number of hands.
“What?!”
I couldn’t help but cry out in surprise.
“It looks like ‘Supper of Madness’…?”
The last spell used by Damnatio when he attacked the capital of the Galzio Empire was ‘Supper of Madness.’
It was a troublesome spell that instantly killed anyone who touched the black hand, but it looked very similar to that spell.
Alogis, perhaps hearing my mutterings, looked impressed and raised his voice.
“Oh. You know of the Supper of Madness?”
“I’ve seen it used before. Seriously. It’s a worthless magic that costs your soul.”
“That’s a magic I created to resurrect my Lord. I see, so someone has used it?”
“What? A magic you created?”
“Indeed. This magic has a similar effect, but… well, let’s just call it an improved version of the Supper of Madness.”
An improved version. So it was even more powerful, and didn’t cost your soul?
If that’s the case, it’s going to be too troublesome.
Besides, Alogis was still in good health.
