TWEM Vol. 8 Chapter 1 Part 1
Chapter 1 – The Beginning of the Holy War
I, Haruto Yuki, am a high school student who was suddenly summoned to another world as a hero along with my entire class.
However, I didn’t have the title of “Hero”, and I was called incompetent and kicked out. I was almost killed by the people of the Glicente Kingdom who summoned me.
There I met someone who called himself God, and obtained a number of cheat skills, and started working as an adventurer in the Kingdom of Perdis.
One day, while infiltrating the Demon Realm, I cooperated with the Demon King Fran, the king of the demons, to stop a rebellion in the Demon Realm. But I learned that a plan to revive the Evil God was taking place behind the scenes.
I returned to the human realm and decided to form an allied army with other countries, including the Demon King’s army, to save the world from crisis.
In preparation for the day of the decisive battle, we steadily made preparations, such as preparing our military and developing new magic tools.
And among them were my fiancées.
Finne, the adventurer who had been traveling with me.
Iris, the princess of the Kingdom of Perdis.
Kuzel, former vice-commander of the Knights of the Glicente Kingdom and an A-rank adventurer.
Ephyr, the elf princess who I saved from becoming a slave.
Ichinomiya Suzuno, my classmate who was also summoned like me.
Ilmina, the daughter of the Pope of the Holy State of Belifaire and known as the Saintess.
Char—Charlotte, the third princess of the Galzio Empire, nicknamed the “War Princess”.
In addition to my eight fiancées, there was Zero, the strongest dragon who became my butler, Glatnis the Behemoth, Asha, Iris’ maid, and the hero Tendo Koji, and other classmates who were also helping me.
And now, the battle that would decide the fate of the world was about to begin…
~
One month had passed since the rebellion. We, the allied forces of humans and demons, were currently at the site where the decisive battle would take place in the Demon Realm.
In the distance, I could see the floating castle where the Evil God Chronos was sealed away. Below it was a large army of monsters, demons who had turned against the current Demon King, Fran, and a large army of fallen angels with jet-black wings. The number of enemies was approximately 300,000.
Surely there were also formidable foes there such as the first Demon King, Alogis, who I had let slip away in the recent battle, and Lucifer, who had come to his aid.
In contrast, our combined forces of human and demon numbered 250,000.
And all of our soldiers were only able to gather this morning.
Many countries had come from far away. Considering that preparations had only begun two or three weeks ago, it was rather early, but in the end, it still ended up being the day the Evil God’s resurrection was predicted.
I had actually thought about teleporting all the soldiers to gather them, but the kings of each country refused. It couldn’t be helped, because the country’s reputation was also a matter of concern.
“Haru, can we win…?”
Looking down at the enemy army from the top of a hill along with me, Fran spoke anxiously.
Normally, I would say something like “I’ll definitely win,” but I didn’t.
Because that would just set off a flag. I didn’t want to set off any unnecessary flags.
So I answered Fran like this.
“Well, I’m sure it’ll somehow work out.”
“Right…”
“I’m being completely serious. The Hero and the Demon King have joined forces, and on top of that, the humans and demons who were enemies have also joined forces. There’s nothing more encouraging than that, right?”
Hearing what I said, Fran erupted with a “pfft”.
“I never thought that Haru, who is stronger than me, the Demon King, and the Hero, would say something like that. From my point of view, the most reassuring thing is having Haru as an ally.”
“…Thanks.”
“Haha, you don’t need to be embarrassed. I was just saying what I honestly thought.”
“That’s what makes me embarrassed. Seriously…”
Fran’s words made me embarrassed.
Then, as I was killing time chatting with Fran, Finne called out to me.
“Haruto-san, I didn’t know you were here.”
“Finne. What’s up?”
“Everyone’s gathered, so I came to call you.”
“Finally. I don’t want to keep them waiting. Let’s go.”
“I guess.”
Fran, Finne, and I headed to the tent that was serving as our main camp.
On the way there, Fran asked Finne.
“You said your name is Finne, right?”
“Y-Yes. What is it?”
Even Finne, as expected, seemed nervous facing the Demon King.
They must have met a few times, but they’ve both been so busy with preparations that they’ve hardly had a chance to talk, so I couldn’t say they’ve become close.
“What kind of relationship do you have with Haru? Are you a friend?”
“We are friends, but…”
I answered for Finne, who was hesitant to speak.
“She’s my fiancée.”
“Your-Your fiancée… Perhaps…”
“Of the people I introduced as my companions, everyone except for Zero, Glatnis, and the maid Asha are my fiancée.”
Come to think of it, I didn’t say it back then.
Fran fell silent, counting something on the fingers of both hands.
“One, two, three, four… so eight!?”
Fran looked at me in surprise.
Finne next to me was blushing slightly.
“That’s right.”
“Ha, Haru. You’re amazing…”
“Really? I like everyone. And it’s only natural that I want to respond to everyone’s feelings.”
“I see.”
Ignoring Fran, who looked deeply moved, we arrived at the tent where everyone had gathered.
When we entered the tent, Oskar, the Emperor of the Galzio Empire, who was acting as the commander-in-chief for this event, and the other kings and generals were waiting for us.
“You came. How was it?”
Oskar asked as soon as he saw me.
“Yeah, there are a lot of enemies. There must be at least 200,000 monsters alone.”
“That’s just the monsters. What should we do…?”
“I have an idea.”
Next to Oskar, who had his arms folded, a large man raised his hand.
He wasn’t wearing heavy armor or anything, but you could tell just by looking at him.
—This guy was strong.
“EX rank adventurer Haruto. You remember my face, right?”
Have we met somewhere before…?
“Um…”
“Gregori Alfred. Really, you should at least remember people’s faces and names.”
“A Grandmaster, huh?”
Now that I think about it, when Tendo and I were going to the Demon Realm, representatives from all the countries and organizations gathered, and he was among them.
I think Char said that he was once known as the strongest adventurer, so strong that he was called the “Fist King of Destruction.”
I see. Even the Grandmaster has come out.
“So, Gregori, what are you planning to do with that many monsters?”
“Emperor Galzio, what do you think adventurers are for?”
“I see. I see. Leave monster battles to the professionals, then?”
“Exactly. The military has its role, and adventurers have their role. We’ve also gathered S-rank adventurers this time, so there shouldn’t be any problems with our fighting power. Besides, Haruto will be able to whittle them down to some extent. Right?”
Did that mean I should do it?
But―
“Sorry, but that’s not possible.”
I declined Gregori’s proposal.
“What? No, I see. You’re going to deal with the Evil God’s apostles, then?”
That’s right, I wanted to focus on the first Demon King, Alogis, who escaped the other day, and the Evil God, Chronos.
“Correct. The Evil God Chronos is behind us. I want to conserve my stamina and magic as much as possible… but I’ll have my two companions assist you – Zero and Glatnis.”
The two who I called took a step forward.
“Leave the removal of the monsters to us.”
“The Evil God is our sworn enemy. After we defeat the monsters, we will defeat the apostles as well.”
Seeing the two, the Grandmaster nodded.
“I see. The strongest dragon and the strongest magical beast. That should be enough force. You said you’re Zero and Glatnis? I’ll leave it to you.”
Zero and Glatnis bowed, placing their hands on their chests, saying, “Leave it to us.”
I wanted to leave the apostles to you two, but there were just too many monsters.
It would be better if you dealt with the monsters so that the entire allied force would have some leeway.
With the two of you and an S-rank adventurer, we should be able to reduce their numbers to some extent.
“I’d like to say something too.”
Suddenly, Fran raised his hand, and Oskar tilted his head.
“The Demon King, huh? What’s the matter?”
“I want you to leave the battle against the first Demon King, Alogis, to me.”
“Why is that?”
“Because I feel that as a fellow Demon King, I should do it.”
“I see. In that case, I’ll leave the battle against the Demon King to you.”
“Thanks.”
We spent the next few hours discussing the details of our strategy.
We’d already defeated one of the apostles, Eleos, so I’d like to think that this gave us a big advantage, but… we didn’t know how many apostles the enemy had.
In the end, I’d accompany the Demon King’s army led by Fran when the war began, while Finne, Tendo, and the other heroes would accompany the human country’s army.
“Well, that concludes the strategy. Prepare for battle, and take your positions.”
With Oskar’s words, we headed to our posts.
