TWEM Vol. 8 Chapter 2 Part 1
Chapter 2 – The Start of the War
The signal to start the battle was given and the two armies clashed.
I saw Gregori, the Grandmaster of the Adventurer’s Guild, leading the charge towards the monster army.
He leapt at a large monster and swung his gauntlet-equipped fist.
The monster’s head exploded in an instant.
He was a former strongest S-rank adventurer, after all.
“Follow me!”
Following Gregori, the other adventurers defeated monsters one after another.
“Is that a human…?”
Fran muttered as she looked at Gregori, but I thought the same.
No matter how you looked at it, it was not a blow a human could unleash, and I couldn’t believe he’s not in active duty.
“He’s a monster…”
“You are not the one to say that, Haru.”
I felt Fran look at me with disbelief, but I ignored it.
Well, I guess it’s about time I got going.
Before defeating the Evil God, I needed to defeat the apostles first. They’ll definitely get in my way.
…Come to think of it, Gyuray, who was one of the Four Heavenly Kings of the Demon King’s army but turned traitor, was nowhere to be seen among the enemy forces.
“Fran, do you know where Gyuray is?”
Fran shook her head at my question.
“No… but they said that they would defeat Gyuray, so I’ll leave him to them.”
Fran said that and turned around.
I turned around too.
There, kneeling before us, were the new Four Heavenly Kings, Hyzak and Alban.
“Demon King, I will eliminate the traitor with my own hands.”
“Just as Hyzak said, leave it to us.”
“Yes. I’m counting on you.”
Oh, there was no problem then.
Then, I had a sudden idea and decided to ask Hyzak and Alban for a favor.
“Could you two please give a message to Gyuray?”
“… A message?”
“Yeah. He was angry because I beat him up so badly and he said, ‘I’ll definitely defeat you.’”
“Ha, that’s fine. What should I tell him?”
“Well… I guess I’d say something like, ‘Go die with the poor Evil God and the first Demon King. Prepare your own grave.’”
“That’s a pretty provocative thing to say.”
“Yeah. Gyuray had a low boiling point.”
“Hahaha, that’s definitely what he was like.”
Hyzak and Alban laughed in amusement and stood up.
“Then, Alban and I will march out as well.”
“I will make sure to tell him and kill him with my own hands, so leave it to me, Haru.”
“That’s very encouraging. I’m sure you think so too, Fran.”
“Of course. I’m counting on you, Hyzak and Alban. I’ll monitor the situation and head off to defeat Alogis.”
““Yes!””
I nodded at the three of them and spoke.
“Then I’ll go as well. Hyzak, Alban, if anything happens to Fran, I’m counting on you.”
“Leave it to me. I’ll protect her with my life. That’s my role as a knight.”
“I’ll do the same. I’ll definitely protect her.”
Nodding at the words of the two reliable people, I began to move towards Lucifer, who was floating in the depths of the army.
Naturally, there would be armies of monsters, demons, and fallen angels on the way there, but there was no need to be lenient or merciful.
This number should be just enough for a warm-up.
“—Hell Flame!”
Black flames shot out from my palms, burning the troops in front of me to ashes.
In an instant, about a thousand of them were reduced to ashes.
But then, new enemy forces surge forward.
“—Yamata no Orochi!”
The eight-forked serpent monster from Japanese mythology made of black flames appeared before my eyes.
I command it mercilessly.
“Burn the enemies to annihilation.”
Following my command, Yamata no Orochi fired its breath at the enemies, wiping them out.
But once again, more enemies blocked the way.
“Get out of my way, you ignorant mooks! If you don’t want to be reduced to ashes.”
When I said this while threatening them, the enemy troops backed away slightly.
Still, they didn’t make any move to make way.
“I see. You want to die, don’t you?”
I raised my hand and swung it down.
In response, Yamata no Orochi, the eight-headed serpent, fired its breath, reducing any enemies in its line of fire to charcoal.
Then, I slowly began to walk along the path left by the disappearance of the monsters, demons, and fallen angels.
The stunned enemy army suddenly attacked, but Yamata no Orochi incinerated them all.
Before I knew it, I had penetrated deep into the enemy camp.
I looked back once, and there was a path I had made.
I’d already stood out this much, so they’d know where I was.
As I was thinking this, I sensed three large presences nearby.
I slowly turned around and called out to them.
“–You’re late, Lucifer.”
There were my targets — the three who had been in the sky above the Evil God’s army.
“I’m surprised you made it this far, it must have been tough.”
“Don’t you know my strength?”
Lucifer snorted at my words.
“Of course I was joking. With your strength, an army of this size would be meaningless.”
“So, you want to crush me quickly?”
“Yes. You’re the most troublesome opponent.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment. So, you’re my opponent, Lucifer?”
“Yes.”
“–Wait, Lucifer. This guy is my prey.”
Lucifer nodded, but someone contradicted him.
It was Alogis.
“Then shall I let you have him?”
“Wait. I want to fight him.”
Then, another magician who seemed to be an apostle stepped in.
This voice… Was this a woman?
